What to expect from counselling
What to expect from counselling
Counselling gives you a protected space, without judgement, to help explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
The counselling relationship can support change, a space for reflection on life events or to aim for specific goals that will improve your your wellbeing. Counselling may not always be easy, but you can be reassured that I would be alongside you on the journey, wherever that takes us.
As a counsellor, I provide a non-judgemental and safe space for you to explore what's important to you. This can be face to face, online, over the telephone or in an outdoor environment. You may have further questions regarding these different modes of support and we can discuss this further as required.
Counselling can help you make sense of things and understand yourself better. It can help you resolve complicated feelings, or find ways to live with them. It may also help you recognise unhelpful patterns in the way you think or act, and find ways to change them (if you want to).
Therapy can help you manage and cope with difficult life events such as bereavement, relationship problems, parenting difficulties and loss. These life events can also cause us to experience a range of difficult emotions such as grief, guilt, sadness, confusion, anger and low self-esteem and the space to process these is offered.
Significant life transitions such as birth, adolescence , menopause and job loss or retirement can all also impact on our feelings of wellbeing at any given time and counselling can assist us to manage these more positively.
